Acrylic can often be a good alternative to glass. Not only does acrylic have higher impact resistance, its non-porous surface also prevents bacterial growth.
- While acrylic is a relatively low maintenance material, it is important to ensure that the proper care is taken to avoid any possible damage. Acrylic products should be stored horizontally in an environment with consistent temperatures and low humidity. Temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38.8 Celsius), as well as extreme temperature fluctuations can damage acrylic and should be avoided.
- Acrylics should be cleaned with a non-abrasive, lint free cloth. Synthetic rags, scouring pads, dry cloths and hands can cause damage to an acrylic surface. Chemical sprays, particularly those containing alcohol and ammonia should be avoided. A special acrylic cleaner should be used. Novus products are recommended. Novus 1 is primarily used for general cleaning, while Novus 2 and 3 are used to remove fine to moderate scratches. Power driven buffers should be used in cases of heavy scratching.
- While acrylic is a very durable material, it can be cracked if a product is dropped or subject to great pressure. In cases of cracking, a replacement should be ordered immediately. Cracks can be halted by drilling a 3/32” hole at the end of a crack, which can keep the sheet in place while a replacement is delivered. Please contact us before attempting to stop the crack.
